Some months ago I was asked about restaurants offering
Rocky Mountain Oysters in the Grand Junction area. It took a while, but I finally found them at
The Winery.
And they were good!
The "oysters" were lightly breaded, fried crisp, piled high and served with barbecue sauce.
The Winery's proprietor,
Steve, told me that he used to serve them at his previous restaurant, Westside Deli. When he took ownership of The Winery, he decided to add them to the menu. The cooks all thought he was crazy, but these fritters have proven to be a strong seller. It would seem everyone is having a ball at The Winery.
Speaking of, while I was there I had a cocktail that reminded me of a gleaming golden holiday ornament. I don't know what they call it, but it was made from pear vodka, St. Germain liqueur, and a splash of champagne served up in a martini glass. One smooth, intriguing taste and I knew this would be my new favorite holiday libation.
The Winery is located in a breezeway on the north side of the 600 block of Main Street. I recommend you get there soon for a tasty cocktail.
