Her work as a professional artist and a self-proclaimed obsession with all things artsy make Dianna Fritzler the queen of Grand Junction's cultural scene. After a bit of world travel and forays into the world of public relations, she finally dropped out of the rat race to pursue more creative dreams of being a painter. She's never looked back, and never tires of talking about the area's thriving arts.  Read full profile

As the weather heats up, so does the music scene in the Grand Valley. Lots going on!

One of the best (and sometimes overlooked) concert series in Grand Junction is Jazz Among the Grapevines. Nestled against the majestic Colorado Monument in the vines of Two Rivers Winery, these concerts (usually three per summer) provide fans with fabulous music, great wine and gorgeous scenery. What more could you want?!

Coming up on Tuesday, July 20, is contemporary sax and flute player Bryan Savage. He has opened concerts for numerous music legends, including Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Mick Fleetwood and Journey. He's also toured the world playing with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Al Stewart, The Amazing Rhythm Aces and John Denver. His is touted as one of the best contemporary flute and saxophone players around, and if you've ever listened to one of his many albums, you would agree. This promises to be a fantastic show!

OK, now here's the kicker: The tickets are only $10 each. That's right, ten bucks. And the best part is all proceeds go to the Western Colorado Center for the Arts (better known as The Art Center). The Art Center Guild puts on the summer Jazz Among the Grapevines series, and its fundraisers help The Art Center provide first-rate exhibits, ongoing arts education for young and old(-er) alike and community outreach through the arts. So you can enjoy a wonderful concert AND help The Art Center at the same time.

A few notes about the concerts: Do bring a lawn chair and an umbrella (more for shade than the rare rain shower), some goodies to eat (even a picnic) and perhaps some bug spray. Don't bring adult beverages, as they are available for sale at the concert, including palette-pleasing wines by the glass or bottle from Two Rivers Winery. Then, sit back and enjoy the show.

After the July 20 concert, there's only one more for this summer's Jazz Among the Grapevines series. Aug. 17 brings Influx (Sophisticated Jazz with a Twist).

The concerts get under way at 7 p.m. at Two Rivers Winery, 2087 Broadway. Tickets are available in advance at The Art Center (corner of Orchard and 7th Street) and at Two Rivers Winery, or you can buy them at the door. Either way, the cost is the same low price of $10.

So, go to the Jazz Among the Grapevines concerts. You won't be disappointed!
