The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa
The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa
Grand Junction is beloved for many things -- its breathtaking Colorado scenery, wine, biking and hiking, just to name a few. And recently, a new reason to adore Grand Junction has emerged: golf. Like those in other Southwestern cities, Grand Junction's golf courses are often open year 'round, offer unique courses and are surrounded by stunning desert landscapes.

The rising interest in Grand Junction golf may be attributed to the popularity of The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa. Among its numerous awards, the course was named Colorado Golf Magazine's top public course of 2009. With its beautiful clubhouse, fine food and group amenities, Redlands Mesa is perfect for golf tournaments or corporate outings.

Red Canyon. It features dramatic elevation changes with stunning views of the Colorado National Monument, giving players a pure golf experience, says Dave Slemon, a partner in the original development.

"There are very few courses in America that can compete with the beauty of Redlands Mesa," Slemon says. "I've become a golf addict by virtue of Redlands Mesa, in large part because of the good courses and great golf values in Grand Junction."

One of those municipal courses is Tiara Rado Golf Course, one of Grand Junction's two city-owned courses. Called "The Rock" by locals, the fairway here plays along the base of the Colorado National Monument's red cliffs, and its convenient location makes hosting a tournament or other large function ideal.

Rado recently completed a remodel of its back nine, which attracts players from around the region to experience this enhanced treasure.

The nearby Chipeta Golf Course is a privately owned 18-hole public course. It is an executive course -- meaning it's shorter than a traditional par-72 course, but longer than a par-3 course -- making it perfect for all levels of golfers.

Chipeta's full-service clubhouse is known for its authentic Colorado hospitality. It can accommodate up to 175 people and is often used for class reunions, banquets, weddings, and family outings.

"We are a premium product with wholesale rates," says Doug Dominguez, Chipeta's general manager. "It's affordable, so a large group can still play."

In addition, the Grand Junction area is also home to Lincoln Park Golf Course and Adobe Creek Golf Course. With five public courses, Grand Junction offers plenty of golfing options in Colorado for groups of all sizes.
