![]() HOSPITALITY UPDATE - GRAND JUNCTION STYLE
Tours & Attractions More than 18 wineries dot the Grand Valley, the birthplace and heart of Colorado's Wine Country. Mild winters, warm sunny days and cool evening breezes along the Colorado River nurture vineyards, where friendly tasting-room staffers welcome visitors to sample an array of award-winning wines. Tours led by owners or winemakers can easily be arranged. Several wineries are located along major highways, or follow a tour along rural roads to distinctive properties. Unlike many of their California cousins, there's no charge for tastings at most wineries here. Arrange for a group lunch at Two Rivers Winery and Chateau. The red sandstone cliffs of Colorado National Monument serve as the backdrop for a sandwich buffet on the terrace. Reminiscent of a French country chateau, the facility offers event and conference facilities, a catering kitchen and 10 upscale lodging rooms in addition to the winery and tasting room surrounded by vineyards. Grand International Buffet opened its doors in 2008 to serve a generous selection of Asian and American cuisine. That variety will satisfy the appetites of both traditional and adventurous
Easy Access Getting to Grand Junction has never been easier. Nonstop flights from Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Phoenix bring travelers to Grand Junction Regional Airport, western Colorado's largest. Morning, afternoon and evening flights allow efficient connections in Denver to destinations worldwide. Just three miles from downtown, the airport is conveniently located near hotels and restaurants with easy access to Interstate 70. Drivers rejoiced with the opening of Riverside Parkway in August 2008. The seven-mile route relieves congestion at intersections near downtown Grand Junction and Mesa Mall, the region's largest shopping center. Traffic now moves freely along the city's southern corridor, which before was dependent on busier U.S. Highways 6 and 50. And Once You're Here Access to Grand Junction's historic downtown is quick and convenient as well. Not to be missed, downtown offers shopping -- boutiques, art galleries and studios -- dining on burgers to gourmet meals, lodging and Two Rivers Convention Center, which can accommodate groups of up to 2,000 people. Landscaped with flowers, shade trees and sculptures, Main Street curves through the center of town. The popular Art on the Corner project places more than 100 original works of art in outdoor venues.
