The Bangs Canyon Trailhead lies at the heart of the Bangs Canyon Special Recreation Management Area and provides access to several different trails and recreation opportunities. These include: hiking and rock climbing in Rough Canyon and Ladder Canyon – home to an historic mica and quartz mine, OHV and mountain bike opportunities on the Tabeguache Trail, the Third Flats ATV trail system, and rock crawling on the Billings Canyon Jeep Trail.

The Billings Canyon Jeep trail was constructed in partnership with the Grand Mesa Jeep Club and the BLM to provide a place for extreme 4x4 use. The result of their combined effort is a world class jeep trail that has also preserved the canyon as a great hiking trail. The trail has an 8 out of 10 rating for Jeeping.
