In the constellation Orion – seen as the middle star in sword of Orion, south of Orion’s belt; Diffuse Emission and reflection nebula; Young open cluster (Trapezium Cluster) with 4 primary stars within 1.5 light-years (2 of these are binaries); Classified as a diffuse nebula with greenish tint (spectrum) caused by low probability electron transition in doubly ionized oxygen (forbidden transition); 1,350 light-year from earth, ~24 light-year across; Magnitude 4.0.
