Navy Week Comes to Grand Junction

Grand Junction, Colorado might be a land-locked state that's hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, but that won't stop the Navy from sailing into town before the Grand Junction Air Show for Navy Week.

Navy Week is an outreach program that travels to cities without a significant Navy presence. This gives people who might never otherwise interact with the Navy an opportunity to learn what the U.S. Navy does. This year, Grand Junction will host a week of events prior to the Grand Junction Air Show. These events will take place all over Grand Junction at venues like CMU, Eureka Science Museum, and Suplizio Field. See the fully Navy Week Calendar here.

The world famous Blue Angels tear up the skies with their death-defying precision stunt flying. When they aren't flying overhead, Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornets will be on the ground and can be seen up close. Not everyone in the Navy fly in planes, some jump out of them - the Navy Leap Frogs will be parachuting to Earth while performing equally impressive maneuvers.

While the Blue Angels and Leap Frogs might be more commonly seen at air shows all over the country, Navy Week also brings in a whole slew of other technology and personnel. Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams demonstrate how they use robots to navigate bombs. This controlled setting allows you to get closer to the robots than you’d ever want to otherwise.

Navy Divers, medical officers, and the Seabees construction force will also be present to demonstrate the roles they play in helping maintain national security. See equipment from the USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironside, the oldest commissioned ship in the Navy. Old Ironside first set sail in 1797, and a full crew of enlisted sailors continues to care for it.

Come out and experience Navy Week for yourself and also catch performances from the Navy Band. Stick around for the Grand Junction Air Show, an adrenaline-packed weekend filled with aerial displays, jet-powered semi tricks, and more! Learn more about the Grand Junction Air Show.
