Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau Releases 2015 Redesigned Visitor Guide

Vivid photography and NEW Layar App technology help to illustrate the Grand Valley’s activities, attractions, and lifestyle through interactive content within the printed brochure

Grand Junction, Colo. (March 3, 2015) – Vistit Grand Junction (VGJ) recently released the 2015 Official Grand Junction Visitor Guide, incorporating a fresh new look and cutting edge technology into the guide.

The redesigned guide, which was a collaborative effort between the VGJ and their 2014 advertising agency, PILGRIM, and website marketing agency, Miles Partnership, features an array of new and captivating photographs and short stories intended to provide inspiration to potential Grand Valley visitors. The vivid images and wealth of information within the guide makes it easy for visitors to visualize, research, and plan their trip to Grand Junction.

“We not only wanted to redesign the 2015 Grand Junction Visitor Guide, we wanted to bring it to life with seamlessly integrated technology within the printed piece,” said VGJ. “We are grateful to all of our partners involved in this extensive project. This guide is thoughtfully designed to take guests through the planning process and create enough inspiration that they complete the booking process.”

In addition to revamping the overall format of the 2015 guide, the new technology aspect has created an Augmented Reality experience for users. The Layar App brings the printed visitor guide to life by integrating digital content such as videos, photo slideshows and direct links to websites and social media into the piece. To utilize Layar, the user must first download the free app. Then, similar to a QR code, the printed page that has been enhanced with Layar technology is scanned. Multiple digital content options then virtually appear on the page, allowing users to interact with videos, text, or audio files. Grand Junction is one of the first known Destination Marketing Organization in the state of Colorado and across the United States to utilize this technology within a marketing brochure such as a visitor guide.

“We’re always looking for emerging technology that can help our clients reach visitors in new and exciting ways. Layar’s augmented reality app is a perfect example of how a traditional print piece like a visitor guide can evolve in the 21st century,” said David Burgess, President of Miles Partnership, VGJ's contracted website marketing agency.
