How long does it take to drive Colorado National Monument?
The scenic Rim Rock Drive stretches 23 miles and takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete. This can be longer or shorter depending on how many stops are made to admire the dozens of scenic viewpoints.
Do I need a reservation for Colorado National Monument?
No reservations are required to enter Colorado National Monument (CNM); however, there is an entrance fee which varies depending on if you’re entering via vehicle, motorcycle, or walking/biking. This fee can be paid online or at one of the park’s entrances. Saddlehorn Campground, located in CNM, does require reservations, although unreserved sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Which entrance is best for Colorado National Monument?
The east entrance to Colorado National Monument is only five miles from Downtown Grand Junction. Entering Colorado National Monument via the east entrance gate brings you past the popular Devil’s Kitchen Trail early in your journey, making an early-morning hike a great option. You'd then pass through some of the most iconic overlooks in the park, Cold Shivers Point Overlook and Red Canyon Overlook before hitting the Saddlehorn Visitor Center. Follow Rim Rock Drive the rest of the way and exit through the west gate. Hop on I-70 interstate or Broadway back into Grand Junction.
