As January fog blankets the Grand Junction area, a trio of prehistoric icons are framed in the mist. Namesake for the Three Sisters Park recreational area, these ancient hills were formed from sand dunes and river deposits that, over millions of years of tectonic uplift and erosion, rose during the transition from primeval seabed to a high-desert plateau. The Three Sisters remain as a gateway to the Colorado National Monument and are children that were born when dinosaurs roamed the area we know today.
