1. I had the old pass. How do I ensure my points transfer over?
If you log in to the new pass using the same email address as your prior pass account, your points will automatically be transferred over. If your points don’t match after logging in, please email MatthewH@GJcity.org with the subject line: Visit Grand Junction Outdoor Adventure Pass. We’ll reference your prior pass and update your new pass with any unused points.
2. Why is there a new pass?
Visit Grand Junction designed an advanced and more innovative platform with a new developer. The new app offers an enhanced user experience, as well as data that local public land managers have requested. This supports Visit Grand Junction's destination management strategy in partnership with outdoor recreation stakeholders.
3. How do I redeem my reward(s)?
Email MatthewH@GJcity.org with your prize selection at least 48 hours before visiting the Grand Junction Visitor Center. Matthew will reply to confirm your eligibility.
Stop by the Grand Junction Visitor Center at 740 Horizon Drive, Grand Junction, CO 81506. When you arrive, let the Volunteer Ambassador know you’d like a staff member to help you redeem your Outdoor Adventure Pass reward. The Volunteer will contact the staff immediately.
When a staff member arrives:
• From the homepage, click on “Unlock Rewards.”
• Locate (but do not click) the reward you want to use.
• Follow the staff member’s instructions. They’ll have you click “Redeem” and then provide you with your prize or gift certificate.4. Do I have to have the app to use this platform?
Yes, in order to check in to locations, you will need to have the app added/downloaded on your cellular device.
5. Do I need to have location tracking on at all times?
No, you don’t need to have location tracking on at all times. When you download the app, a tutorial will guide you through selecting your preferred location settings:
-
Always: If you choose Always, you’ll be able to use the auto check-in feature, which automatically checks you in after completing the trail. You can also use the manual Check-In button.
-
While Using the App: If you choose While Using the App, the app must be open or running in the background for the auto check-in feature to work. The manual Check-In button will still function normally.
-
Never: If you select Never, the app will prompt you to enable location services when you try to check in and will provide instructions on how to do so.
6. Can I search for a specific area?
Yes, if you are going to be in a specific area like Colorado National Monument or Grand Mesa, you can either use the search feature to type in an area or trail, or you can use the filter button to search for a category like “Colorado National Monument."
7. What if I want to do a trail that is not on the app?
You will not receive credit for doing a trail that is not in the pass, but you can encourage us to add it by emailing Matthew Hart: MatthewH@GJcity.org.
8. How do I find where to park to access the trail/area?
Directions to the trailheads are in each of the location cards. Click on the “Click Here for Parking Directions” hyperlink in the details section. You can find the details section by clicking on the selected trail or area. You will click “Details” underneath the "Map It" button, and you will see “Click Here for Parking Directions” underlined. When this is clicked, it will give you directions to the designated parking location.
9. What if I get to the check-in location on the trail and I don't have service?
Once you get to the location, be sure to check to see if you have cell phone service. If you do not, take a photo of yourself at the location, with scenery framed behind you, upload your photos, and we will make sure you get checked in. When submitting a photo, add your name and the trail's name to the name field. Example: John Doe - Devil's Kitchen Trail.
10. Can I complete the activity more than once to earn another reward?
No, each activity can only be checked in once per user. To earn another check-in, you’ll need to try a different area.
11. What if I start a hike and don't finish? Will I receive credit for the hike?
No, you will only receive credit if you complete the hike or upload an image of yourself on the completed hike.
12. How do I know which rewards are earnable, redeemable, or already redeemed?
When you select a reward, a “Redeem” section will appear.
- For earnable rewards, this section shows how many points you have, how many are required, and how many more you need.
- For redeemable rewards, it will display “Redeem Now.”
- For rewards you’ve already claimed, it will say “You have already redeemed this reward.”
13. If I am on Google Maps, how do I get back to the Outdoor Adventure Pass homepage?
In the upper left of your screen, click the back button. Or you will need to return to your home screen and click on the Outdoor Adventure Pass icon.
14. Will my pass expire?
No, the pass will not expire.
15. How does the reward system work?
You will earn points for each outdoor spot you visit through the app. You can redeem your accumulated points for prizes at the Grand Junction Visitor Center (740 Horizon Drive, Grand Junction). Once you spend your points, the amount you've spent is gone, and you will need to continue accumulating points to redeem other prizes.
16. Can I redeem prizes if I’m back home and don’t live in Grand Junction?
You can redeem your prize even if you are not in Grand Junction. Email MatthewH@GJcity.org with the following subject line: Visit Grand Junction Outdoor Adventure Pass. Explain in the email what prize you would like. Matthew will contact you to make arrangements to mail your prize to you, and will also log your prize redemption, which will reduce your points.
*Prize mailing will only apply to users who reside outside of Mesa County.
17. How are prizes delivered?
Prizes are available for pickup at the Grand Junction Visitor Center (740 Horizon Drive, Grand Junction). If you reside outside Mesa County, see question 14.
18. Do other people need to sign up for their own pass, or can we all use mine?
Each pass is associated with an individual user. An active pass is accessed by typing in your individual e-mail address. If you have friends who want to participate, you can encourage them to sign up for the pass themselves. Then, you can all visit locations, earn points, and redeem prizes together as you check in on your own passport.
19. I am having issues submitting my prize order. What do I do?
Please email MatthewH@GJcity.org with the following subject line: Visit Grand Junction Outdoor Adventure Pass. Please include your account information and what prize you are looking to redeem when you submit your request. The more information you include when submitting your request, the better!
20. How long will it take my shipped prize to arrive?
Prizes are typically fulfilled within 4-6 weeks of when you redeem the prize and submit your mailing address. If you have already waited longer than this time frame, please email MatthewH@GJcity.org with the following subject line: Visit Grand Junction Outdoor Adventure Pass, and he can check on the status of your prize.
