Art, Culture & History

Grand Junction is rooted in the history of Western Colorado. Discover dinosaur fossils, historic orchards, Ute Indian artifacts and gunslinging outlaw memorabilia. The old West spirit remains alive today as locals stay true to their roots while embracing growth and welcoming new generations of families to the area. Stroll down Main Street in Downtown Grand Junction to see over 115 sculptures and murals which frame the wide sidewalks. Or pop into the eclectic art galleries and working studios to get a first-hand look at how Grand Junction’s history and culture shines through every masterpiece. The Museum of Western Colorado allows you to step back in time to imagine what the wild west was like back in the day.

Museums & Historical Attractions

Step back in time at The Museum of the West, part of the Museums of Western Colorado, where exhibits range from Ute Indian artifacts and pioneer life to outlaws, mining history, and an actual stagecoach. Don't miss the rooftop observation deck for panoramic views of Downtown and the surrounding valley.

Other notable cultural stops, also part of Museums of Western Colorado, include:

  • Dinosaur Journey Museum in nearby Fruita – A family favorite with real fossil digs, animatronic dinos, and a working paleontology lab.

  • Cross Orchards Historic Site – A living history museum showcasing Grand Junction’s agricultural roots and offering seasonal events like harvest festivals and reenactments.

Public Art & Galleries

Downtown Grand Junction is a walking art gallery in its own right. Along the Art on the Corner outdoor sculpture exhibit, you'll find more than 115 sculptures, murals, and interactive art installations that change seasonally—many of which are available for purchase.
