Joe Yogerst, a writer, highlighted Grand Junction in the article "Rocky Mountain Electrify: 7 Super-Charged Colorado EV Byways".

"Charging out in front of other states, Colorado announced a pioneering Greenhouse Gas Pollution Roadmap in 2021.

A key part of the effort was creating more electric vehicle charging stations along Colorado’s scenic and historic motoring byways so that EV drivers could cruise the entire route without fear of running out of juice.

In order to gain recognition as a Colorado Electric Byway, the routes had to feature dual-port DC fast charging stations at least every 100 miles within their start and finish.

Since the campaign kicked off, 20 routes have met the criteria and six more are in the works, making Colorado the friendliest state for all-electric road trips. Here are seven of the best:

Journey back to Jurassic times along a scenic & historic byway that starts with Dinosaur National Monument and its famous Quarry Wall, which exposes more than 1,500 dinosaur bones including the remains of iconic creatures like the Stegosaurus and Allosaurus.

After passing through the desert mountains and passes of northwest Colorado, the byway reaches the Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita, with the possibility of a side trip to see the dramatic red-rock canyons of Colorado National Monument.

Venture into one of Colorado’s best-kept secrets on a byway that rises high above Grand Junction and the Colorado River Valley.

Considered the world’s largest flat-topped mountain, the mesa rises to around 11,000 feet above the surrounding desert landscapes. Protected within the confines of Grand Mesa National Forest, the mountaintop shelters more than 300 small lakes and ponds, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, and an amazing array of flora and fauna.

Cedaredge and its wineries anchor the bottom end of the highway, but the road trip can easily extend to nearby Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park."
