Visit Grand Junction Policies:

Grand Junction area tourism businesses, locals, and guests can share their digital assets with Visit Grand Junction in a few simple ways. If Visit Grand Junction plans to use your digital content, Visit Grand Junction will always request permission first. Once approved, the owner will be credited when the content is featured (with the exception of PR articles and ad campaigns due to legal and licensing obligations). Depending on where your image appears, credit may be shown as a direct link to your social post and channel, or as a photo tag such as "Photo by John Smith." This provides you with added visibility and drives traffic to your social channels—at no cost to you! Visit Grand Junction print and digital content generates an immense amount of traffic, so this provides you additional visibility. In fact, some local photographers have been contacted by consumers interested in purchasing their images to display in their homes.

City Council approved Visit Grand Junction’s brand standards. The strategy aims to elevate the Grand Junction brand as a whole. Visit Grand Junction's marketing is strategically developed to promote the destination holistically, rather than focusing on individual businesses or people. It’s a careful balance, but not every image is intended to serve as direct promotion for the business featured. This is one reason you may see images of products that do not mention the business name in the caption; however, image credit is applied where appropriate. For example, Visit Grand Junction may post a picture of a bagel and pose the question, "What is your favorite breakfast in Grand Junction?" P: @XYZ restaurant.

How Image Credit is Presented when Shared with Visit Grand Junction:

  • Social Channels:

    • Photo credit is mentioned as a "P: @XYZ" across all social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, and TikTok) or as an overlay tag within the post. Please see this Instagram post for an example.

  • Website:

    • For Blogs and Articles: Photo tags are linked within the header image to the owner’s social media page. If there is no corresponding social account to link to, the owners name is placed underneath the image. Examples below:
Visit Grand Junction is currently the only Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) in the world that is hyperlinking header images to the owner’s social channel.

      • Please reference this blog post for an example of a hyperlinked header image directing to the owner's social channel.

      • For an example of an image that does not have a corresponding social channel, reference this blog post. You will see the image owner mentioned underneath the header image.

      • Please see this blog post for an image within the blog post that does not have a corresponding social channel. You will see the photo tags underneath the fourth image, excluding the header image.

      • Businesses and points of interest that are mentioned in an article are hyperlinked to the business listing on the Visit Grand Junction website.

  • Visitor Guide:

    • The photo tags are listed on each page in the binder and/or as an image subtitle. This applies to the digital Visitor Guide as well.

  • eNewsletters

    • Photo tags are placed in the bottom corner of the image.

    • Visit Grand Junction includes Visit Grand Junction social posts at the bottom of Marketing eNewsletters and Stakeholder eNewsletters. These have links to the Visit Grand Junction social platforms which have credits as noted in the "Social Channels" section above.

  • PR & Ad Campaigns:

    • PR involves content being shared with external publications and partner organizations that are not owned or managed by Visit Grand Junction. Images used for PR are represented differently from the examples above, as each organization establishes its own guidelines and expectations regarding image rights. For example, Brand USA specifies that all images Visit Grand Junction provides will be represented as Brand USA assets, with the photo credit displayed as “Brand USA.” For this reason, all assets that Visit Grand Junction submits for PR purposes are credited as “Visit Grand Junction.” Depending on the organization, the image credit may appear as either “Visit Grand Junction” or the partner’s name. With the America 250 and Colorado 150 celebrations already underway, many exciting partnership opportunities with Brand USA are anticipated.

    • As with all ads and advertising campaigns, photo credits are not included.

    • In legal terms, to ensure compliance with applicable copyright, licensing, and indemnification requirements, all digital assets provided to a third-party contributor or for partner marketing purposes shall be credited to “Visit Grand Junction.” Attribution to individual social media account holders or third-party contributors is not permitted, as such attributions may imply ownership, endorsement, or transfer of rights inconsistent with the City’s intellectual property policies and established legal agreements. This protocol safeguards both the content provider and the City of Grand Junction / Visit Grand Junction from potential claims or misrepresentation arising from third-party use. As a reminder, please see the website section above where Visit Grand Junction does provide image credit on the website for PR Blogs.

      • Beyond this attribution protocol, this approach helps ensure that Visit Grand Junction represents the destination as a whole. For example, if an image and PR article highlight XYZ business in Grand Junction, listing “Visit Grand Junction” as the credit reinforces the broader identity of the community. This helps elevate all local tourism businesses—restaurants, attractions, retail, lodging, and more—under a unified destination brand. Many readers and consumers who search for “Visit Grand Junction” are directed to the destination website, where all tourism-related businesses are represented. Of course, the specific business is mentioned within the article's content and provides them direct PR value to their establishment. This provides a fair balance.

    • You may notice PR article images credited to Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, or Getty Images. Publications and third parties take this approach to avoid their own image rights and licensing issues.

Please feel free to contact Visit Grand Junction if you have any questions or comments.
